. nbc news chief pentagon special ift joins us live this morning from afghanistan. jim, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, lynn. as you can see behind me, the smoke is still rising from some of the suicide bombs that went off in the heart of kabul near the presidential palace and several ministry in what is a highly sophisticated attack. after the first bomb went off and first responders came to the scene, they came under heavy fire from taliban fighters who had positioned themselves on the upper floors of a nearby market, which eventually erupted into flames. in the midst of that, another suicide bomber driving an ambulance set off a blast. according to afghan officials, one policeman and a child killed in the blast. four militants killed in the fierce firefight that went on for two and a half hours. although it appears to be quiet now, western itelligence officials say more suicide bombers may be roaming the city in this brazen attack on the capital may not be over yet. lynn? >> jim, thank you so much for that report. >>> a new week begins in haiti much in the same way
